IS THERE SOMEONE EXPECTING YOU?

In Kari’s lecture, she will share images of workers and their working days; from exhibitions and art displayed in public rooms, to a studio in Hovedøya, to a recycling plant in Manchester and further to an old trash dump within Oslo fjord. A visual journey of 25 years as an artist.

“No matter which piece of clothing you choose, there is always a person on one side or the other,” she says.

Midtnorsk Strikkefestival has permission to use and to share the photograph of the artwork, 4th Grade. A piece that has been on exhibition in many locations around in Norway and is now owned by and on display at Sørlandet Art Museum.

We are excited to experience this historical reminiscence from Karin, who has shared her knowledge and historical storytelling locally and abroad. Christel Seyfarth

DENMARK`S QUEEN OF KNITTING

It is with great pleasure that we can present Christel as one of our speakers during the festival this year. Our collaboration Cold knitting festivals has bound us together, and led to us this year getting to know many new people who contribute as lecturers and workshop holders.

Christel takes you into a knitting universe that combines Fanø's traditional costume culture with modern knitting patterns. Christel and her husband are behind the successful international knitting festival in Fanø, which attracts 10,000 guests annually.

Birger Berge

IF I`M SITTING I`M KNITTING

During this lecture, Birger Berge will share his knitting journey, “from inspiration to design”. 31 year-old Birger has been making and creating all of his life and he can barely remember a time when he didn’t knit. He has recently published his first knitting book, “ Moderne Tradisjonsstrikk”.

Birger doesn’t knit because it is trendy. Knitting has nurtured his mental health and has been a source of healing and dealing with pain.

You can read more about his story here: https://www.boktips.no/hobby-mat-og-fritid/birger-berge-moderne-tradisjonsstrikk/

During his lecture, Birger will share inspiration from the rich, knitting traditions within Norway.

CREATE DRESSES OF JOY FROM OLD CARDIGANS

Karin Mertz Pladsen are Hanne Senstad are the “two girls” who sew woollen dresses from old knitted clothing and woollen fabric. Each dress is breathtakingly beautiful and completely unique. No two dresses are ever alike!

They create their dresses to last a lifetime. Their designs can be worn every day but are also perfect for special occasions. When it came to choosing fabrics, they chose woven wool.

This is a fantastic material and perfect to use in combination with old knitted clothing. In this way, they have the possibility to give new life to old, beautiful hand knit jumpers or cardigans.

Karin and Hanne will be sharing part of their collection on the catwalk during the festival.

Jørgen Johnsen

ABORIGINAL KNITTING FROM SCANDINAVIA

Jørgen shares that he took up knitting to impress a girl. I learned to knit from my mum and my grandmother when I was six or seven years old. Then I knit a triangular scarf or something like that. After that, I didn’t knit again until I was 16 or 17 years old. When asked if knitting impressed the girl, he says, “Kind of…not exactly.”

Jørgen is studying to be a priest in Oslo. He also works at a local yarn shop “Nøstet Mitt”.
